If you could add certain features to Photoshop...

Wed May 20, 2009, 9:22 AM
...what would they be?

I've been using Photoshop for a long time, somewhere around 7, 6? years by this point. (Yes, I've always played with computers.) And lately I've been thinking of what Adobe should do with its prized program.

Photoshop desperately needs some sort of chat feature. They have something similar out already for Adobe Reader, called ConnectNow. You can chat with several people at once and collaborate on a document in real time. However, it's simply not powerful enough, and does not suit to the needs of a good part of Photoshop's userbase. ConnectNow is good for layouts in magazines, papers, books (think InDesign work)and web design type work... But it just cannot do what digital painters would need it for. Paintovers, critiquing in real time - ConnectNow is definitely on the right track, but when are they going to add this into Photoshop?

It'd be great for use on collaborations, and I wouldn't be stuck using very constrained Pchat clients to be artsy fartsy with others.

Photoshop needs this feature, desperately. Get a shared canvas between however many people (hopefully more than 4) can join and work on at the same time. Maybe even have some sort of system (if possible) where people can upload their resources, such as brushes/faux vectors/patterns/text files/etc that everyone can either download or use temporarily during the session.

I feel so crazy nerdy over this, I even tossed up the suggestion in the Adobe forums. D:

I also wish PS had some of Corel's features - I really loved the realistic colour picker and some of the RealBrushes. But I can't get the hang of Corel for shit so it'd be 7 kinds of awesome if PS had some of these functions. Oh well.

I think PS needs more painting based functions/features, especially with things like blending and so on.

Painter 11 has some of these (should try it, X has already corrupted two of my files. fucker..)

Live collabs would be pretty sweet though. I would imagine you'd need some serious bandwidth though.
